Mike provides fiscal oversight, strategic planning, funding advocacy, and resource development and deployment for the entire SBDC organization. Mike was the business founder and vice president and general manager of DuPont’s Advanced Material Systems. Most recently, he was the chairman and president of the Delaware Technology Park. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Fraunhofer USA, DE Bio Science Association, and First State Innovation.

Dr. Weir holds a doctorate in chemical physics and lectured at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland before a 35-year career with DuPont. He is a former vice president for global research and development at DuPont and the founding director of the Delaware Biotechnology Institute.

Cheryl is responsible for all HR processes and communications, brand development, integration of OEIP units, as well as the daily administrative operations of OEIP and the Office of the Director. Cheryl serves as the primary point of contact between the OEIP office and stakeholders.

Amalea is responsible for leading the operational functions of HR, budget, finance, brand development, and the integration of these functions to support all units of OEIP. Amalea manages the integration of program activities for all units to ensure a seamless process. Amalea also leads the Spin In® program, which partners interdisciplinary teams of students with faculty and entrepreneurs who have promising ideas.

David Root is the Center Director of the Delaware Small Business Development Center (DSBDC) in Georgetown. In this capacity, he is responsible for the operations of the southern Delaware office. He has been with the SBDC since 2017.

She previously worked as a business development consultant lending her expertise in strategic planning and management to corporations, government agencies, small businesses and nonprofits.

Sergio brings 15 years of management experience as a multilingual business analyst specialized in finance and technology with vast international experience. Sergio has lived and worked in Brazil, Spain, and Switzerland where he co-founded and managed a fully distributed small business serving international clients and partnering with vendors worldwide.

His areas of expertise include technology, finance, marketing, operations, business strategy and planning. Sergio is passionate about turning ideas into tangible solutions. He enjoys helping start-up companies to develop new business models and assisting existing firms to improve business efficiency and advance their success. In addition, data analytics is a fundamental element of his professional toolkit to guide clients towards data-driven business decisions.

Sergio holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the Zurich University of Applied Sciences – Switzerland, as well as an MBA in Finance and an M.S. in Information Systems and Technology Management from the University of Delaware.

A University of Delaware graduate of the Lerner College of Business and Finance, Jacob received his BS (2016) as dual major in Finance and Management Information Systems.  With expertise in cybersecurity, database management, digital marketing and finance, Jacob is passionate about technology, gathering market information, and applying data to drive sales and decrease costs.

Lou comes to us with 40 years of experience in start-up and small technology companies and began his career at UD’s Institute of Energy Conversion. He has SBIR/STTR and Federal R&D grant and contract experience and has assisted companies with procurement of over 200 awards.

Anthony joined the SBDC as a Business Advisor in 2020 where he provides consulting and training to new and existing businesses. His expertise includes working with business-to-business service and product companies, restructuring and turnaround situations, and technology companies.

Prior to joining the SBDC, Anthony spent 9 years as a partner in three small businesses based in Delaware and Pennsylvania. His responsibilities included day-to-day operations, financial management, business development, human resources, business strategy, and much more. His companies served as a strategic vendor to over 150 businesses each year with services and products such as IT support and cloud services, warehousing and order fulfillment, and custom packaging materials. In total, Anthony managed over 50 full-time employees and nearly $12 million in annual sales.

Anthony graduated with a B.S. (Summa Cum Laude) in Finance, after only six semesters of study, and a M.S. in Finance from the University of Delaware. He also pursued graduate coursework in Financial Economics at the University of Pittsburgh.

Gabrielle has over 25 years experience. Previously, she served as an Executive Assistant for a top five accounting and consulting firm and worked with several members of the team by providing administrative support. At SBDC, Gabrielle works closely with the Center Director and other Business Advisors by handling various responsibilities including: organizational planning; client communications; assisting with events; and client data management systems. With her strong organizational skills, Client Relationship Management expertise, and a positive can-do attitude, her focus is on providing exceptional service to the client.

Sarah is the Administrative Specialist for the SBDC. A University of Delaware alumna, Sarah received her BA in 2016 and completed her MS in International Business in 2018 from the Lerner College of Business and Economics. Sarah has over five years of work experience that runs the gamut from business licensing, insurance licensing, accounting, government planning and legislative policy, non-profit public relations, program analytics, research and data collection, retail and customer service, to project management. Prior to joining the SBDC, Sarah worked with many Delaware corporations, specializing in client management and organizational management. At the SBDC, she works closely with the Associate State Director, handling reporting, organizational planning, and client communications. She also assists with events and client data management systems.

Dr. Walt Blaney is the Director of the Delaware PTAC at the University of Delaware. Walt joined PTAC in 2018. Prior to joining PTAC, Walt was owner and principal consultant/trainer of a VOSB, Contract Management Consultant (CMC). Walt spent 40 years in Federal government acquisition and contracting as a contract specialist/contracting officer in DoD and other Federal agencies. Walt retired as a Navy Supply Corps Commander after 32 years of service as a contracting and logistics officer. Walt has also worked in academia as a certified comprehensive science teacher in NJ public schools, an assistant professor at Nyack University, and a Project Officer on a TITLE II Science—Technology—Mathematics grant at Rowan University. Walt is certified CPCM, DAWIA Level III Contracting, and VA Verification Assistance Counselor.

Dave is a Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) counselor and is an expert in management and government contracting. He has served as a PTAC counselor at George Mason University, the president and CEO of Aerosonic Corporation, the president of Avionics Specialties, Inc., and fulfilled numerous positions at Teledyne Industries.

Dana Reece is the program support specialist for the Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) and has been with the Delaware PTAC since 2009. Prior to joining the organization, Dana worked for more than 10 years as a computer programmer and systems analyst. She specializes in the SAM (System Award Management) Government Registration and holds a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems.
